Family Support Scheme

Benefits of Day Care

Specialist one day a week centres are popular because carers can have regular breaks knowing that their dependant relative is in safe hands, while at the same time , attendance at the centre gives the member an opportunity to socialise with others who have similar needs.

About the Scheme

Central Notts. Mind first set up the Family Support Scheme in 1978 to assist families caring for an elderly confused relative at home.

The help provided through the Scheme is in the form of day care at various centres throughout Central Nott.

This kind of support is essential because, contrary to popular belief, ony 10% of elderly mentally ill people receive some form of institutional care; the majority are mainly looked after by relatives within their own (or their carer's) home.
